Lack of snow + mild winter = early golf season

April 11, 2024 by Bill Brotherton

Thanks to a mild, warmer-than-usual winter many public golf courses on the North Shore got a jump on the 2024 season. Most kept gas/electric carts in the barn and limited play to 9 holes, walking only. Players didn’t seem to mind, ecstatic that they were able to retrieve their bags and shoes from the basement earlier than usual.

Despite a rainy spring and the occasional frosty morning, Cedar Glen in Saugus, Kelley Greens in Nahant and Black Swan in Georgetown  were among the earliest to open, in late February. By mid-March, tee times were being accepted at Beverly Golf & Tennis Club, Cape Ann, Olde Salem Greens, Sagamore Spring, Far Corner, Gannon Municipal, Hillview, Mount Hood, New Meadows, The Meadow at Peabody, Rowley, Stoneham Oaks, Unicorn, Chelmsford and others.
