Clover, the adorable Black Tri Australian Shepherd who spends his days at Tedesco Country Club running around with course superintendent Mike Hughes, enjoyed a bit of celebrity exposure last year when he graced the cover of North Shore Golf’s Summer issue.
Well, Clover, who will be 2 in June and resides with the Hughes family, has graduated to the big time. He’s the cover boy on the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America annual calendar.
Hughes said Clover hasn’t let the glare of national limelight go to his head. In fact, he faces some competition for best-looking pooch at Tedesco. Head PGA professional Ryan Train’s 5-month-old pup and General Manager Mike McGillicuddy’s dog Tao are awesome as well.
The Australian Shepherd breed is known to be a unique mix of worker/companion. The members adore Clover and often surprise him with a belly rub or a treat from their golf bags.
“Last summer, my wife and I saw a post on my association’s social media asking for picture submissions for the Dogs of Golf calendar. An outing had just ended and the course was going to be closed for the rest of the day, so we took the opportunity to take some pictures of him to submit,” said Hughes.
“A few months later, I got a call from the calendar people as well as the sponsors of the calendar to inform me that Clover wasn’t just selected for the calendar, but he’d be on the cover … and there’s a little thumbprint of him in the bottom right corner of each month.”
The cover photo is really cool. Tedesco’s grand clubhouse rises in the background. “It’s fun to think Clover is in so many golf maintenance offices and lunchrooms throughout the country,” Hughes added.
